(formerly “Shropshire Highlands Challenge”)
Coronavirus: as of March 20th, the Highland Challenge has not been cancelled. We are, however, investigating alternative later dates as it is becoming more and more obvious that June 14th may not be a feasible option. More information will be posted on this site and emailed to those who have already registered as soon as it is available.
Sunday 14th June 2020
29th edition of this iconic ride on quiet roads and lanes in the beautiful Shropshire hills. Founded and organised by Danny Mason for 25 years, the Challenge is now organised by Ludlow Cycling Club.
2020’s 65 mile route is all in Shropshire and involves 1,800 metres (nearly 6,000 feet) of climbing. The Challenge is not a race – no tags, timings or numbers – and how you ride is up to you: we normally attract both young and fast club riders and older once-a-year tourers. A great but tough day for all types.
After running costs, all proceeds go to MacMillan Cancer Support.
The Highlands Challenge is famous for its catering, and this year we’re extending the range beyond the traditional Mr. Kipling cakes
Bacon baps, tea & coffee available before the start at modest prices
Morning and afternoon refreshment stops
Complimentary tea, coffee and cakes
Large filled rolls, crisps, cakes, tea and coffee at modest prices
Available at the Rugby Club and all three stops
Make it a weekend if you wish in Ludlow. Excellent secluded camping and caravan facilities at event H.Q. below the castle at only £7 pp. Book when you enter
Get 5 or more of you to ride this year
Because it’s great to cycle with your pals, Ludlow Cycling Club will treat any group of five or more wearing the same kit* to a complimentary round of beers (or non-alcoholic alternative) at the Rugby Club bar when the group completes
(*can be either a cycling club kit or any informal group of 5 or more choosing to wear matching clothing on the day)
